Gloria Scott is best known for the Barry White produced ‘What Am I Gonna Do’. It’s a classic slice of mid-seventies soul that’s long been a staple of the modern soul scene, particularly the title track and the equally groovy, (A Case Of) Too Much Lovemaking. To be honest, I thought that Gloria had long since hung up her pipes and moved on to herding goats, or making waffles, or whatever else it is rare soul singers do when the hits dry up. So imagine my pleasure on discovering her honest-to-goodness stomping cover of the Ten City classic, That’s The Way Love Is. Out on SedSoul, with Cool Million’s Rob Hardt helping out on production, this is a tune destined to light up any modern soul dancefloor. I know that I’d cut a rug!
