Some Fine 80s Cuts – Triple Play Goodness

1 06 2010

In an 80s soul mode today, so thought I’d share a few beauties.

I love Angela Winbush. The tone of her voice, her choice of material. It’s all good. And Rene and Angela’s ‘I love you more’ from 1981’s Wall to Wall definitely qualifies as classic material. I caught this on Solar Radio the other morning and have been rinsing it ever since. Enjoy!

Manhattan Transfer on a 80s groove trip! I remember all that rat-a-tat-a-tat shit they used to do back in the day. Spice of Life comes from the 1983 album Bodies and Souls which has a few other decent cuts on it. Don’t sleep on this. Perhaps the soul fan’s guilty pleasure, it’s a classic jam.

Rounding up the trio of 80s yumyums, we come correct with the delightful blissed-out sounds of Booker T Jones’ Best of You from the 1980 album of the same name. Years later, Kenny Thomas released a cover which is perhaps more famous in the UK, but the original is my preferred version, no offence Kenny! You know that phrase, they don’t make them like they used to! Never more appropriate.

Another good track from “Bodies and Souls” is “Mystery”. I have it on 7″. Don’t think the album issued on CD.
